What Is Motives Cosmetics?
Originally launched back in 1997 by Loren Ridinger Motives Cosmetics is a network marketing company that specialises in the sales of beauty products, and whilst it’s been around for quite a while it’s only really as of quite late that’s it begin gaining mass popularity.
Now if you’ve taken a look at any of the Motives Cosmetics products then you’ll see clearly that they’re a company that’s targeting women, but as a man, you still have the opportunity to join the business opportunity & promote the products as a salesperson.
I’ll run over the business opportunity in just a moment with you in more detail to help you figure out whether or not you think it will be profitable for you & worth your while actually promoting the products.
The one good thing I do want to say about this particular business opportunity though is that the cosmetics industry is huge so you certainly shouldn’t find yourself short of a target audience…

What Are The Products?
When it comes to network marketing companies one of the main problems with them is that they usually only give you a really small product line to work with but Motives Cosmetics are quite the opposite.
Motives Cosmetics have a LOT of products, and if I was to list them all individually I’d probably be here all day – so I’m not going to do that. What I am going to say though is that the products look of very good quality & they’re surprisingly well priced for a network marketing company too.
It’s good to see that they provide so many products because as a distributor this gives you a lot more flexibility & makes it easier for you to potentially generate sales because you’ve got more choice to offer your customers.
The product line includes things like makeup, cleansers, moisturizers, body lotions & accessories such as makeup brushes, eyelash curlers etc.
Now whilst I mentioned the prices of the products are reasonable, in my opinion, they are still slightly above that of their non-MLM competitors. Motives Cosmetics claim all their products are hypoallergic, talo free, paraben-free and fragrance-free which is how they’re justifying the additional costs… I guess that’s fair enough.
However unfortunately there’s actually been some rumours circling stating that Motives Cosmetics products contain toxic ingredients but to date that’s not been verified by Motives Cosmetics or the external claimants – it’s just hearsay. I’ve listed some of the potentially toxic ingredients which are said to have been found in Motives Cosmetics products below:
- Dipropylene glycol
- Carbonate caprylyl methicone
- Alcoholadenosine
- Potassium hydroxide
Motives Cosmetics themselves haven’t come out to say anything about these claims however there are several reviews from customers online which talk about it so if the people you’re promoting to like to do their research before buying then this could potentially put them off making a purchase.
The Business Opportunity
Credit where it’s due, Motives Cosmetics actually seems to have a pretty good product line (providing the toxicity rumours are false, of course), so let’s go ahead & take a look at the business opportunity to see if it’s going to actually be worth your while promoting them.
Since Motives Cosmetics is a network marketing company there are 2 ways you can earn money. Firstly you can earn commissions from sales of the products that you make yourself, and secondly, you can earn additional commissions by recruiting other people into the business & earning commissions when they make sales too.
You’ll earn 30% commissions on the sales you personally make yourself & you’ll get bonuses when you build a team & your team members go on to host their own parties. Motives Cosmetics say that if you build 2 teams of 5 distributors who each hold 2 parties per month then you can expect monthly earnings of around $1,500 – but as you can imagine it would be very difficult to build such an active team.
Is Motives Cosmetics a Scam?
I have noticed quite a few Motives Cosmetics scam rumours circulating the internet but in all honesty as far as network marketing companies go this is probably one of the most legit companies I’ve come across.
The problem with network marketing companies is the structure – they’re borderline pyramid schemes & the only thing preventing them from falling into that category are the products. For that reason, you have to tread very carefully when considering joining a network marketing opportunity but it’s clear to see that Motives Cosmetics has a genuine product line & encourage retail sales as opposed to just pushing the business opportunity.
One promising sign is that Motives Cosmetics has been in business since 1997 which to date is around 20 years so it’s safe to assume that their practices must be fairly good at least otherwise they’d be long gone by now.

My Final Verdict
I’m not going to be recommending Motives Cosmetics but that’s not because I believe it to be a bad company, it’s simply because I don’t like having to host home parties to generate an income.
Network marketing companies like Motives Cosmetics were a great way to earn an income years ago but now we have the internet there are just so many better alternatives, in my opinion at least.
Selling through a network marketing company requires fairly high startup costs, lots of meeting people, holding product etc…
Yet you can build an income online without any of that – there are various ways methods to generate income online but one of the best, in my opinion, is affiliate marketing. Through affiliate marketing, you can make sales for big companies & earn commissions on the products without ever having to buy the product & without even ever having to talk to anybody… I believe that to be much better!
