You might have already heard that one of the quickest ways to find success with affiliate marketing is to find a mentor who can guide you along the journey, share insider “tricks” & help you to avoid the common pitfalls.

But just how exactly do you find an affiliate marketing mentor?

And more importantly, how do you find a legit affiliate marketing mentor that’s actually walked the walk as opposed to just talked the talk? A mentor that can truly help you to find success?

The good news is that there are actually a couple of ways to find a legit affiliate marketing mentor & I’ll be uncovering them here in this post but before I do that, let’s take a closer look into what an affiliate marketing mentor actually is.

What Is an Affiliate Marketing Mentor?

In short, an affiliate marketing mentor is somebody that is set out to help you find success with affiliate marketing by sharing tips, tricks & suggestions based on their own experiences.

The mentor will typically be somebody who has already found success with affiliate marketing themselves & the idea is that they’ll be able to use their experience to essentially put you on the “fast track” to achieving success.

For example, if you were to try to become a tennis champion on your own without any assistance, you would likely struggle… But if you were to seek the help of a professional coach, you could greatly speed up your progress.

And the same applies to affiliate marketing.

If you were to try to figure out affiliate marketing all by yourself without any direction then you would likely struggle but if you had a coach (or an affiliate marketing mentor), that journey could be made much easier.

And alongside providing you with a sense of direction, one of the biggest benefits of having a mentor is that the mentor can also typically help you to avoid mistakes (which could save you money, as well as time).

Obviously, the specifics of how each mentor actually mentors you will depend on the individual mentor but training could be provided via Skype, via phone, via email or even in person & some advanced mentors may even have their own training courses that you can follow as well.

But however they provide their mentoring, the goal is always the same & that’s to help you build a successful affiliate marketing business in the shortest time possible.

Do You Need an Affiliate Marketing Mentor?

In all honesty, most people who think they need an affiliate marketing mentor don’t actually need one – especially not since there are so many step-by-step affiliate training programs available nowadays.

For most people, a legitimate training program would more than suffice & help them achieve success.

I would say that, in my opinion, an affiliate marketing mentor only becomes truly beneficial when you have reached some degree of success & are looking to take your business to the next level.

Personally, I would NOT recommend an affiliate marketing mentor to a newcomer… And I appreciate that advice may go against the advice of others, but I am 100% sticking by it.

So if you’re new to affiliate marketing, I would recommend that you simply look into a step-by-step training program (such as Commission Academy) instead of searching for a mentor.

A properly laid out program will put you well on your way to success & the benefit for you here is that it will come at a much lower cost than if you were to hire a mentor right from the start.

But I am not saying that mentors are “useless”. I do believe that mentors can be very helpful – it’s just that I think they should be reserved for when you’ve found some success & you are looking for help with something specific to take your business to the next level.

For example, let’s say you’ve followed a course, built a website & begun generating some commissions but now you want to go beyond the scope of the course & figure out how to turn more visitors into sales… Or you want to figure out how to get more visitors by leveraging paid advertising…

That, in my opinion, is when it could be time to hire a mentor.

So if you’re completely new to affiliate marketing then, for now, I would stick with a legitimate training course (not a mentor)… But if you’ve found success & are looking to scale, then do continue reading as a mentor could be just what you need.

The Benefits of Having a Mentor

The first big (and often overlooked) benefit of having a mentor is accountability. You see, as an affiliate marketer one of the most difficult things is actually getting to work & getting sh*t done.

If nobody is watching you & you’ve got nobody to be accountable to, it can be hard to actually get your tasks done & work on your business… Especially when there are so many distractions around.

But if you have a mentor who holds you accountable & requires you to check in then you can best believe that you’ll be much more likely to be on top of your sh*t. Even more so if you’re paying a hefty fee for the mentorship.

Then, alongside that there’s the big benefit of being able to avoid a lot more pitfalls (and potentially save a lot of money by dodging costly mistakes) as on top of showing you what to do, your mentor will also be able to stress what NOT to do.

And that’s a true biggy… Because I myself have had lots of costly mistakes over the years meaning if I was to mentor somebody now, I could literally save them thousands just by sharing tiny little tips.

But this obviously depends on the mentor. A mentor that was mentored may not have had the same experiences as their mentor may have helped them to avoid the mistakes as well…

That’s why I like to choose a mentor that’s “self-made” as they’ll have generally had much more experience throughout their journey with regards to trying different things & seeing what works (and what doesn’t).

Then finally, there’s the obvious benefit in that a mentor will be able to show you exactly what to do in order to get your business profitable in the shortest time possible.

As I just mentioned, from their own experiences they’ll know what works & what doesn’t so they’ll be able to use that experience to guide you & really shorten down your journey to success.

I mean sure, you probably still won’t hit a home run right from the start & there will still be some trial & error but no doubt there will be much less of it than if you were to try to go it entirely alone.

How To Find an Affiliate Marketing Mentor

The reality is that there are many people who will claim to be an affiliate marketing mentor & gladly take your money in return for their services but in reality, they are nothing but a fraud.

I’ve seen it way too often… People who haven’t really found success just trying to pretend that they have & then taking people’s money in return for their so-called “mentorship”.

So how do you find an affiliate marketing mentor? More specifically, a legit mentor?

Well, to begin with, my advice is to kinda re-engineer it… Meaning that rather than looking for somebody who is specifically promoting their mentorship services, just look for somebody who is actually having success with an affiliate business.

Find an affiliate website, YouTube channel, influencer (whatever path you want to go down) & reach out to them. Let them know you’d like their help & tell them that you’re willing to pay.

Admittedly you’ll get some “no’s” but by going down this route you’ll be getting mentorship from the people who are actually in the trenches & leveraging the methods that are working right now.

Because let’s face it, marketing evolves… Fast!

And then when you do get a “yes”, dive in & do your due diligence on them. Is their business really as successful as they claim it to be? How long have they actually been doing affiliate marketing? What are other people saying about them?

You could also even ask them how they got started, how they learned affiliate marketing & what courses they’ve previously been through. In fact, the more questions you ask the better.

In fact, I could have probably scaled my business WAY faster if I had a mentor & I could have probably saved tens of thousands whilst playing around with paid advertising…

But am I mad about it? Not really, it was a journey & in a way, I’m glad about it because now I feel like I have a lot of experience in the affiliate marketing game to share with others.

So it’s safe to say that you can certainly achieve success without a mentor & these days it’s made even easier for you because there are many free step-by-step affiliate training programs.

But there’s no doubt about it, a good mentor will surely speed up your results & will help keep you accountable throughout your journey so if you want to do things “quickly”, it’s definitely something to consider.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line here is that you absolutely do not need an affiliate marketing mentor to see success with affiliate marketing but having one could certainly help you to see success & scale your business much more quickly.
